In issue one, the professor who discovered the tomb in 'The Mummy's Curse' by Reg Parlett was called Professor Effend, but in issue two his name had changed to the much more comical name of Professor Potts!
In issue one, the Champ strip was called 'The Champ', but by issue two it had been reduced to simply 'Champ'.

  1. Thank you so much for the summaries of these old issues - I only started reading Whizzer & Chips in about 1975ish so these issues, with the early evolution of the strips, are fascinating to me.

  2. Prof Potts didn't have a name in the first strip - it's a Turkish term meaning "Lord", "Master" or "Sir" according to Wikipedia.

  3. Thanks for that Andy - a very intresting fact! Anf I hope to be covering issue three in the not too distant future!
