Hi, I won a competition for Whizzer and Chips once. I designed a filing cabinet that copied all of 'Super Steve’s’ files and sent them back to the NME. They included the design as part of the story one week and mentioned my name in the comic strip. I was so proud! I kept a copy of the comic I was in for years but sadly it has now been lost. If any one has seen that story in any of their back issues I would love to know the date so I can keep an eye out for my own issue. I think it was between the years 1979 and 1984. Thanks anybody for your help! Heidi Tucker (was Bishop)
My NME Nasty was pitted against Steve in July 1985. I was thrilled they chose my Volcanic Porridge Monster - still have my certificate and letter from the Editor - and of course a few issues
What a great blog! I had great fun reminiscing when I came across this last night. I once had a reader's letter published in which I had drawn a design for a bike that Joker could use to defend himself against a bully. Unfortunately my parents threw it out, not realising how valuable that was to me.

Hi, I have been trying valianty to find a particu;ar copy of Whizzer and Chips comic and these are the details that i have, I hope there bis someone out there, that can help me: On the day of The Royal Wedding, Wednesday29th of July, my brother very exicitedly told me and my Mum that his joke had been published , we were not so impressed, as were imersed in the wedding! It will be my brother's 50th this year and would love to get hold of a copy of that comic. So far, I have been sent the 25th of July copy, which I thought would be the likely candidate, but to no avail, so then it was sugestefd that the issue dated 1st of August, would be the correct one, although I was doubtful, seeing as the date was after the date of the wedding, I bought a copy, sadly that wasnt the one either. My brother's name is Jonathan Cole from Springfield, Chelmsford and it would mean the world to me, if you were able to help.
hi does anyone know the illustrator who penned the one off abstract art piece that featured in early eighties editions of whizzer and chips?
ReplyDeleteI really love whizzer and chips!
